Craig Dworkin, poet-in-residence at Shandy Hall

Shandy Hall, Coxwold, February 2009

information as material and the Laurence Sterne Trust were proud to welcome the poet, critic and theoretician Craig Dworkin as poet-in-residence at Shandy Hall in 20xx. The Utah-based writer stayed on site at the Hall, which is the former residence of the famed 18th century English writer Laurence Sterne and now functions as a museum dedicated to exploring the legacy of his work in the arts generally and in the context of the artefacts of his estate. The residency served as a research period toward Dowrkin’s new book, A Perverse Library, published by iam in September 2010, and the related exhibitionary installation, to be presented at Shandy Hall from September to October 2010.

Postings on other residencies at Shandy Hall co-organised by iam can be found in the archive of this blog.

The Voice and Nothing More: an academic mash up

A collaborative performance by Simon Morris & Rob Lavers

Wednesday 14 January 2009, 12pm.

‘The Voice and Nothing More’, Woburn Research Centre, The Slade School of Art, University College London, January 12 – 16, 2009.

Festival organised by Sam Belinfante and Neil Luck.

From a subsequent review by David Berridge:

“At the Slade School of Art on Wednesday lunchtime, Simon Morris – writer, performer and publisher of information as material – was launching ‘The Voice and Nothing More’, a short festival of workshops, an exhibition, and performances exploring the voice in contemporary art. Befitting his role as scene setter, Morris read a text that seemed to outline different properties of the voice. I heard sections on laughing, crying, and female orgasm.

Visions – part 1 – information as material

Johan Deumens Gallery (Haarlem), April 11 – May 16 2008.

iam proudly accepted the invitation of Belgian gallerist and book dealer Johan Deumens to be the subject of the inaugural exhibition at his new gallery in Haarlem, in Spring 2008. The show was curated to present iam’s output in the context of other, object-based works that were also elements of the broader projects undertaken by each of our artist / authors projects that iam is otherwise only able to represent via our publications and editions. Noises, writing machines, prints and source texts were all brought together to present the dynamic modes of appropriation that our artists engage in, and to suggest some of the lines of coherence to iam’s editorial trajectory.
