information as material was established by the English artist Simon Morris in 2002. Based in York (UK), iam operates as an independent imprint that publishes work by artists who use extant material — selecting it and reframing it to generate new meanings — and who, in doing so, disrupt the existing order of things. The imprint’s activities involve publishing, exhibiting, curating, web-based projects, and invited lectures. iam’s editorial team is Craig Dworkin, Simon Morris and Nick Thurston; brief information on each of whom can be found (alongside short biographies for each of our published authors / artists) on the BIOS page of this website, and contact details for whom can be found on the CONTACT page of this website.
This blog was begun in mid-2010 to replace the old iam website, as an online information space about the activities of iam that could be easily managed by the editorial team. It hosts an archive of such posts which refer to things before mid-2010 but unfortunately that archive is not, and cannot be, complete. However, we will do our best to post all the latest news about the imprint and detail’s of our publications at www.informationasmaterial.com from the launch of this blog onward, and don’t be surprised if historical posts appear when we stumble upon an interesting memory previously forgotten.
Our publications and editions are held in private and public collections around the world. Our bookworks and DVDs are directly distributed internationally by Cornerhouse Publications (UK) and numerous bookstores. Synoptic posts on all of our publications and editions can be found under the Publications category of this website, and all those still in print can be ordered directly from this website via the PURCHASE page. For information on specific publications, editions not listed on the purchase page, or our critical and curatorial work please contact simon [at] informationasmaterial [dot] com.
